Greece: Sustainable and Geotourism

Uncover Greece via the unique geotourism parks

The Global Linkers prioritise the significance of geoenvironmental education in order to advance and safeguard geological heritage and geoethical principles. They aim to provide an overview of geotourism in Greece in relation to these matters. Geoeducation is a comprehensive aspect of environmental education that seeks to enhance awareness and appreciation of the geological heritage and protection of a specific location. It is an essential and indispensable instrument for addressing environmental challenges and thereby contributing to sustainable development. Greece is renowned for its extraordinary and unique natural splendour, as well as its plentiful natural riches and distinctive geological characteristics. Therefore, this country has already developed six worldwide geoparks. Nevertheless, Greek law primarily focuses on safeguarding biodiversity when it comes to environmental conservation, with minimal attention given to the concept of “geodiversity”. Global Linkers acknowledges the significance of establishing a legal structure to safeguard geotopes. This is emphasised by the fact that promoting and managing geotopes in a rational manner not only fosters sustainable development but also enables them to become high-quality tourist destinations (geotourism) by focusing on nature preservation and education. Global Linkers recognises that Greece’s geodiversity has the potential to attract public attention and contribute positively to the protection of geotopes. Global Linkers’ activities have the potential to enhance the conservation of geological sites and contribute significantly to their sustainable development.
Global Linkers will provide infrastructural and geotouristic services starting in late 2024.
