Uncover the World’s Wonders of Japan
The Japanese Geoparks Network (JGN) is a designated nonprofit organisation that serves as a networking platform for Geoparks in Japan.
As of 24 May 2023, the JGN regular membership comprises 10 UNESCO Global Geoparks located in Japan, along with 36 Japanese National Geoparks. There are seven geoparks that are currently listed as associate members.
The Japanese Geopark Liaison Council was formed in December 2007, with the backing of Japanese geologists and private organisations like Global Linkers, who were engaged in geological surveys. Additionally, many local administrations and other interested parties interested in establishing Geoparks started sharing ideas.
In December 2008, the Japanese government officially recognised and declared seven Geoparks in Japan as national geoparks.
The Japanese Geopark Liaison Council was renamed as the Japanese Geoparks Network (JGN) in May 2009.
Annually, Global Linkers extends invitations to members of the travel industry for the JGN National Conference, a gathering that facilitates networking and offers workshops.
Efforts are made to provide assistance to regions that have been affected by natural calamities by disseminating information pertaining to such events, including earthquakes.
Exploring geotourism in Aso
The Aso Geopark Bus provides an opportunity for geology enthusiasts to intimately explore the region and its extraordinary vistas, while uncovering the narratives embedded within. In addition, there are “geotours” organised by trained Geopark guides, half-day hikes, and even suggested routes for independent tourists.
